Everything about tile adhesives, grouts, and tiling materials
Tile adhesive is a polymer-modified ready-mix mortar that offers better bond strength, flexibility, and water resistance compared to traditional cement-sand mix. It reduces hollow tiles, cracking over time, and ensures a thinner, more even bed — especially critical for large-format tiles.
Wall tile adhesive (Type 1/C1) has higher grab strength to prevent tiles from slipping before setting. Floor tile adhesive (Type 2/C2) is formulated for higher load and flexibility. For wet areas like bathrooms, always use a waterproof or C2TE grade adhesive on both surfaces.
Typically, a 20kg bag covers 4–5 sq metres at a 6mm bed thickness. For larger format tiles (600×600mm and above) requiring a thicker bed or back-buttering, consumption increases. Always check the coverage rate on the specific product bag.
For bathroom and wet area joints, use an epoxy grout or a polymer-modified cement grout with anti-fungal additives. These resist moisture, staining, and mould. For dry areas, standard cement-based grout in matching colour is sufficient.
